The Christmas jumper came back a few years ago; it seemed one year the reindeer print knit jumped out of the screen from an 80s movie, and found itself on the clothing rails of every shop come December. Ever since they’ve made a return and have basically become a seasonal essential, they’ve gotten better year on year – but are you going graphic and modern or cheesy and traditional? Here are my picks from Pretty Little Thing’s Christmas jumpers..
Go..Graphic, modern and reversible:
We all know the graphic tee is an outfit lifesaver, stuck on what to wear and only really feeling a t-shirt and jeans? A graphic tee will sort you right out and take you from t-shirt and jeans to cool t-shirt and jeans. Graphic Christmas jumpers work the same way, if you’re trying to give your outfit a hint of Christmas without being full on knitted snowman, one of the slogan offerings work perfectly.
It wouldn’t be Christmas without a bit of classic gold glitter, usually found within your party dress but if you’re not feeling completely dressy why not combine your festive glitter with your knit? When i saw this PLT Christmas jumper it literally spoke to me, the perfect shade of Christmas red and i think it’s a slightly more modern answer to the Christmas Jumper.
Pariring this with a structured coat and heeled boots (in matching seasonal red of course) means it’s a more put together offering for the festive period, perfect for quick drinks or a pub lunch after a morning of Christmas shopping. I didn’t even realise when i first got this, that this jumper is actually reversible – i can run my hands along the sequins and the “ho ho ho” graphic changes from black writing on a gold background to gold writing on a black background. You can almost cheat and say you’ve got two Christmas jumpers..
This is a thinner knit and because of it’s more modern concept it can definitely be dressed up. It’s the perfect thickness to be tucked into a skirt, and you could even change it to the black background to get it to fit perfectly with a black skirt and heeled boots.
So maybe you’re not into the modern answer to Christmas jumpers, at some point (myself included) we all want to look like it’s Christmas eve 1984 and were in the cheesiest Channel 5 Christmas movie. When that feeling hits there’s only one style i go for: bright red, snowflakes, reindeers.. basically like Christmas hit you in the face with this jumper from Pretty Little Thing.
Yes, this isn’t your sleek dress for the office party but it’s the perfect thick knit to put on and see friends in over the Christmas period; It’s the type of jumper someone wears and it literally brings joy to a table, if i see someone wearing a jumper like this i instantly feel festive. The stereotypical “ugly” Christmas jumper is undoubtedly my favourite, we call them the ugly Christmas jumper but really i find myself looking for the ugliest possible one i can find.. if you can’t cover yourself in reindeers at Christmas, when can you?
It’s Christmas, you can get away with wearing a jumper like this but at the same time you can dress it up (stay with me i promise), pairing a long structured black coat with this makes it more dressy and making sure you’ve got the right accessories helps too! You might not get away with wearing it at the Savoy, but it certainly makes Christmas dressing less serious and more festive, like it should be.
