Long gone are the days of 99p chocolate advent calendars, it appears over the last few years times have changed and everyone has well and truly embraced advent calendars with everything from mini bottles of gin, to socks inside. Being a beauty obsessive however, there is only one type of advent calendar i’m interested in, (other than chocolate of course) and that is beauty advent calendars. I wasn’t convinced for a long time about these, often the products all came from the same brand or you ran the risk of getting things you’ve never heard of and not actually getting the value you were promised – but that’s where M&S and their incredible beauty department have stepped in, to create one of the only beauty advent calendars that actually lives up to the hype: The Beauty & Makeup advent calendar.
Go on, count how many brand names you can spot in this picture .. oh wait.. every single product is from a brand i instantly recognised.
As this is an advent calendar and that obviously goes hand in hand with Christmas, M&S organised a Christmassy themed evening at Biscuiteers especially for the launch of this years calendar. What could be more perfect than Christmas songs, prosecco, and attempting to ice an entire gingerbread house inspired by the calendar? Nothing, you’re right.
The Biscuiteers icing cafe in Notting Hill is a work of art in itself, never mind the iced biscuits that decorate the interior. Chances are you’ll already be familiar with Biscuiteers, i’m pretty sure Zoella is a fan and we all know, if she’s a fan, most of us are. They’ve graced many an instagram flatlay and the Christmas biscuits are something so seasonal, they look like they’ve come straight out of a movie. If anyones looking for a Christmas gift for someone (i.e. me?) a tin of these wouldn’t go down to badly on Christmas morning, that is after i’ve opened the 25th day on the advent calendar, of course.
Enjoy the pretty professionally iced biscuits while they last, soon you’ll be met with my answer to icing a gingerbread house, and it isn’t quite up to this standard.
Call me a professional biscuit icer, i’ve found my new calling in life, obviously.
I was always the kid in the class who failed miserably at arts and crafts, i’ve made a mental note not to ice biscuits around bloggers again because they’ll suddenly turn Biscuiteer employee once they’ve got a piping bag in their hand, and i’m still sat wondering how the icing gets out.
My gingerbread house may not have a door (poor gingerbread man), but i did really enjoy icing it and i also enjoyed eating it – also i managed to stop my temptation of solidly icing the entire thing to get maximum icing consumption, and did a few presents and trees instead.
Onto the main event, the advent calendar:
The event was in aid of the M&S advent calendar, or as i like to call it a 25 box beauty extravaganza. Seriously, i wasn’t even convinced about beauty advent calendars until seeing this, so many of them cost in the 100s of pounds and a lot of them are only 12 doors (i mean really, who decided half an advent calendar was a good idea?)
If the words “25 products” didn’t convince you already that this was one of the best options around, maybe you need to hear about the actual contents? Inside the M&S beauty advent calendar 2017, you will find:

I probably should’ve done a spoiler alert shouldn’t i? Oh well, everyone knows you buy a beauty advent calendar to grab the contents and even though i did have to open it all in one go, it almost felt like Christmas opening each box and finding the products from each incredible brand. I’ve actually spoken about the M&S beauty department before because they have literally the most amazing brands in store, and they’ve done so well to include the best of the bunch in this.
If i had to be pushed to pick a favourite from this 25 piece lineup it might just have to be the 50ml Alpha H Liquid Gold Rose. This is the newest version of the cult Liquid Gold which i hadn’t gotten round to trying yet, and the rose gold version was enticing me even more, you get a really generous size in the calendar and i’m pretty sure it’ll last me a good month or so.
Other generous sizes include the Shay and Blue blood orange perfume, at 10ml it sounds small on paper (or screen?) but it’s actually a really good travel size, i actually have another one of these from a subscription box which i keep it in my handbag and it’s still going after months. There’s a good few 30ml and 50ml sizes and even full sizes of the Ultra Sun lip balm, Diego Dalla Palma mascara, and two nail polishes coincidentally from two of my favourite nail brands NailsINC and Leighton Denny.
There’s just too many products to talk about, i’m pretty much excited about all of them if I’m honest, i can’t say no to mini Emma Hardie cleansing balm, a Stila liquid lip or Eyeko Mascara. Okay i’ll stop naming products now, but i just can’t help it, there’s just so much amazing stuff inside.
The advent calendar is out of stock online, but you can still get it in quite a few stores – follow the instructions on the advent calendar page to check a store near you!
