Beat the heat makeup

This week we've actually had some heat in London and while a lot of it has been humidity we've also had some sun; while good weather is always appreciated its not always the best for keeping makeup intact and many of us still end up like a melting mess by the end of the day. So i'm going to talk you through the products i use which work to keep my makeup on my face in the summer months.

Lets start with the base: I'm a strong believer in its whats underneath your makeup that counts rather than anything over the top. I use the No7 airbrush away pore minimising primer to prime my skin before makeup. This provides a really smoothing base for your makeup to stick to and works to reduce shine throughout the day. If you can't get hold of this the smashbox photofinish is also very similar, just thinner and silicone based.

For foundation: I only ever wear Estee Lauder double wear foundation, its the only foundation i know which really lasts throughout the day. Despite its good coverage i don't think its formula is too heavy, i was surprised at how thin the consistency was when i first used it. But if you do want a lighter summer base with the same longevity you could switch to double wear light instead.

Eyes: I've found most shadows stay in place with a good primer underneath and its the same with keeping eyeliners from transferring. The urban decay primer potion literally keeps your eye makeup in place all day even in warmer temperatures, i believe its worth the price but if you want a cheaper alternative i hear the NYX eyeshadow base is good too.
Also to stop any smudging from bottom lash mascara, using a little bit of setting powder on an eyeshadow brush keeps everything in place. It means you're not full on baking when you're actually baking, from the sun..get it???
Finally for the eye area I've started using the benefit ready, set brow! setting gel to keep my brows in place and trust me no heat will move ready set brow.

To set: I always set my makeup with a powder to stop myself from getting shiny and to generally improve the look of my foundation. I have two powder favourites, the Rimmel stay matte powder and the soap and glory one heck of a blot. I think the soap and glory powder is better at absorbing oil but if you're not that oily the Rimmel stay matte is a great affordable option.

Hopefully these tips will help anyone still trying to keep their makeup in place while in 30 + degree heat, if you're like me and still refuse to go without it! - Maria x

  1. Great tips! I agree that powders are the way to go to set your makeup in place, the Rimmel stay in matte is one of my favourites too! :)

  2. I've been using the Rimmel stay matte powder for quite a few years now, and if I don't put it on to set my foundation I know that my foundation will not last longer than a couple of hours.
